Invisalign Q & A

What does Invisalign involve?

Invisalign is a great alternative to traditional metal braces. The system uses patented clear plastic aligners that fit over your teeth and apply gentle force, repositioning teeth over time.

Invisalign aligners are worn nearly around the clock. You should only remove your trays while eating, or during dental hygiene routines.

Why choose Invisalign over braces?

More and more young adults are choosing Invisalign. Not convinced quite yet? Here are the benefits of Invisalign over braces or other traditional orthodontic approaches:

  • Invisibility, so people never see a mouthful of metal, they see your real teeth
  • Comfort, so you don’t have to worry about soft tissue damage
  • Convenience, because you can remove them to brush, floss, or eat
  • Timing, because Invisalign treatments work up to 50% faster than other orthodontic techniques

What should I expect from an Invisalign treatment?

Dr. Abar will start by examining your teeth to check that Invisalign is the right choice for you. He might either make physical impressions of your teeth or create 3D images of them using a digital scanner.

Those images allow the lab to create a set of customized plastic aligners that fit snugly over your teeth. The aligners will gradually move your teeth into their proper positioning. You’ll switch to a new set of aligners every few weeks, and the process repeats until your smile is ideal.

What is Invisalign for teens?

Invisalign is only effective if your child actually wears the aligners as directed. Invisalign addresses the issue of treatment compliance with small blue indicators that let Dr. Abar know if your teen is wearing their aligners as directed. That accountability is what makes Invisalign Teen such an innovative approach.

The Invisalign system is great for teens, many of whom are self-conscious about their smiles. The clear aligners eliminate the risk of broken brackets and bent wires, which means fewer appointments.

Invisalign is also easier on the soft tissue of your teen’s mouth. That can be a big advantage for teens who are active in sports or fitness pursuits.
